100 Black Men of Syracuse, Inc. is one of 39 non-profit youth mentoring organizations in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts to receive financial support from First Niagara Foundation. The organizations are sharing $1 million provided through the regional bank’s Mentoring MattersSM program. Representatives of the 100 accepted a $25,000 check from First Niagara officials during a public presentation held Oct. 2 at H.W. Smith Pre-K-8 School in Syracuse.

“We’re grateful for First Niagara’s support, which we will use to expand and enhance our mentoring programs,” said 100 Black Men   of Syracuse President Vincent Love. “With such a strong demand for mentors in our community, this contribution will go a long way in making our mentoring programs more effective and a more rewarding experience for the youth we serve.”

The 100 has established group mentoring programs for male students at Nottingham and Fowler high schools, as well as Westside Academy in Syracuse, and is seeking students to expand its Manhood Training mentoring program based at the South Side Innovation Center, also in Syracuse.
