100 Black Men of Syracuse, Inc., in conjunction with Junior Frontiers of the Mohawk Valley, will present the second in a two-part, free seminar series on preparing for college. The second seminar is entitled “The When, What & How of Financing College Educatione.” Scheduled 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2015, the seminar will cover the three primary types of financial aid offered and their sources of revenue.
We will cover the various ways of applying for financial aid and the time elements involved with each one. The seminar will provide an in-depth look at the primary tool used by colleges to determine financial aid, which is called the FAFSFA form and when and how it should be filled completed. We will also discuss the underlined basis for how the FAFSFA works and how to best situate your family finances in order to obtain the maximum financial aid award. The seminar, which is intended to help parentsparents and students understand the strategies necessary to to secure funds for private and public colleges, will also provide information on public and private scholarships, loans and grants, and we’ll discuss the best practices for their usage. The seminar will also include an in-depth review of New York State’s HEOP/EOP programs. Finally, the seminar will provide information and discussion on the issues concerning just how much loans and debt one should undertake for college cost, and the relationship between cost and the value of a college degree.
Students and parents from 8th grade through 12th grade should attend. Although admission is free, students and parents must register online for the seminar. Each registrant must print out a ticket and bring it to the seminar.
